Season 14 Finale

Eleven weeks ago, my favorite show returned for another season after taking the fall off, and after all eleven of those weeks had passed, it was finally time for The Finale of Season 14 of The Masked Singer! I was looking forward to this so much, as the season had been amazing up to this point, so I figured that the last episode would be just as amazing, if not even more amazing.

The episode started off the same way as many of the other episodes this season, and many other past seasons: with a group performance of Mystical Magical by Benson Boone. As I have said in the past, I always like these group performances, as they let the contestants stand out together, but unfortunately, I didn’t love this one for a very big reason. Ken Jeong was also part of this performance, and he started the whole thing off. I’m not going to say that it was terrible, but he is not a singer at all, and it really took away from the four contestants.

I will not be getting into the clues for this episode, as everybody was unmasked in this episode, but I will say that every single clue package for all four contestants was basically them talking about the journey of their careers and what the show meant to them.

The first performer of the night was Galaxy Girl. After her clue package, she went on to give an amazing performance of Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo, during which she showed off all the power and energy in her voice. In lieu of making actual guesses at this time, the panelists instead talked about the journey they had been on with trying to guess who Galaxy Girl was, which is also what they did after the performances from the other three contestants.

The next performer of the night was Cat Witch. After her clue package, she went on to give an amazing performance of Leave (Get Out) by JoJo, during which she showed off all the power, energy, and emotion in her voice.

The next performer of the night was Pugcasso. After his clue package, he went on to give an amazing performance of True Colors by Cyndi Lauper, during which he showed off all the power and emotion in his voice.

The next performer of the night was Crane. The bird, by the way, not the construction vehicle. And yes, I have said this every time I have talked about her. The first time was to clear up any confusion, and all the other times have been because I thought it was funny to continue to say something that was no longer necessary. After her clue package, she went on to give an amazing performance of Together Again by Janet Jackson, during which she showed off all the power and energy in her voice, and even a few dance moves.

After that, it was time for the first unmasking of the night, which was revealed to be Crane. Okay, before I get into this part of the show, I’m going to let you all know something very interesting. On the day that each episode premiered this season, the show posted to social media the list of songs that would be performed on that episode. I say this because when they posted the list of songs, there were a total of eight songs on the list, and they said that Crane’s second performance was going to be Impossible by Shontelle. Yes, they literally lied about a performance that didn’t even happen. I don’t know why they did this. Is it because they didn’t want to spoil any placements for the contestants? Was that even going to be her second performance if she made it to round 2?

Anyway, it was time for Crane to unmask, but before that could happen, her celebrity bestie came out, which was Khalid, and he revealed what was inside her Crack The Case Clue Case, which was a plaque that read “AMA, Guinness World Record, VMA, and Kids Choice Award.”

The panelists made their final guesses, and with the exception of Ken, who guessed Kelly Rowland, they all made the same guess, and were proven to be correct, as Crane was revealed to be Normani.

When she gave her unmasked performance, something unique happened, as she didn’t give an encore of a song that she had performed this season, nor did she even perform a Fifth Harmony song. Instead, she performed Love Lies, which is her song with Khalid, which he joined her on the stage to sing, making this the first time a special guest joined a contestant for an unmasked performance.

After that, it was time for Round 2, and up first was Galaxy Girl. She then went on to give an amazing performance of Try by P!NK, during which she showed off all the power in her voice, and even finished singing from a platform several feet in the air. Here’s another interesting fact right now: this performance from the finale was the first one revealed in one of the first trailers for the season. Yes, they shared a Finale performance before the season had even started.

After each performance in Round 2, each contestant then spoke in their unfiltered voices. It doesn’t really mean anything in the long run, but it’s something that I felt was worth mentioning, and I had no idea how else to share it.

The next performer of Round 2 was Cat Witch. She then went on to give an amazing performance of Greedy by Tate McRae, during which she showed off some very impressive dance moves and all the power in her voice, which surprised me because I don’t think the original song has that many powerful vocal moments.

The last performer of the season was Pugcasso. He went on to give an amazing performance of Sussudio by Phil Collins, which was unlike anything he had performed all season, as he really showed off all the power in his voice in a very energetic way, and he even showed off some dance moves.

After that, it was time for the final vote of the season, and the contestant that ended up in third place was revealed to be Cat Witch. Her celebrity bestie was revealed to be past contestant Meg Donnelly, who sent in a prerecorded video, and inside her Crack The Case Clue Case was a mouse trap. She was then unmasked, and while Ken and Robin guessed incorrectly, Jenny and Rita correctly guessed that she was Kylie Cantrall. After she was unmasked, she told the panelists that she was The Masked Insider for the season, and showed them a video of what she had been up to, and had a lot of sweet moments with panelist and Descendants costar Rita Ora. After that, she gave an umasked encore performance of her song Denim, which surprised me, as typically when contestants perform unmasked encores of their famous songs, it’s songs that everyone knows, and even then that’s not always the case, so it was a nice surprise.

After that, it was time for Nick to announce who had won Season 14, and the winner was revealed to be……………….

Galaxy Girl!

This meant that it was time to unmask the runner up, Pugcasso. Before that could happen, a prerecorded video from his celebrity bestie, Randy Jackson, was played, and his Crack The Case Clue Case was revealed to be containing a golden ticket, which resulted in all four panelists guessing past American Idol contestants, but only Jenny guessed correctly, as Pugcasso was revealed to be Phillip Phillips. As I predicted, his unmasked encore performance was his song Home, but I was not expecting that he was going to actually be playing guitar during his performance, making it the first time that a contestant was definitely playing an instrument live during their performance.

From there, it was time to unmask Galaxy Girl, but before that could happen, her bestie came out, and it was revealed to be Jessica Simpson, and her Crack The Case Clue Case was revealed to be containing an autobiography. From there, for only the fourth time in the show’s history, the panelists were unanimous in their guess, and were again proven to be correct, as Galaxy Girl, the winner of Season 14, was revealed to be Ashlee Simpson. I think it’s great that she was unmasked while her sister Jessica was literally on the stage, and that she got a chance to prove herself as a great singer after her infamous Saturday Night Live lip syncing controversy. For the last moment of the season, she gave an unmasked performance of her song Pieces Of Me.

Overall, this was an amazing end to an amazing season of The Masked Singer, and I’ll see you all next week when I share with you all my full thoughts on it!
