Season 14 Premiere
After eight very long months, multiple changes of seasons, and an entire new year, it was finally time for Season 14 of The Masked Singer to premiere! To say that I was excited would be an understatement, as they had chosen to take the fall off, so this made it feel even more special as a result. And every trailer they released, as well as each piece of information they released got me even more excited.
The episode started off with the only way that made sense: a performance from all four panelists of one of the biggest songs of 2025 from one of the biggest movies of 2025, Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters.
From there, it was explained how the episode was going to work.
There were going to be a total of five face-offs on the episode, and there would be one winner and one loser at the end of each of them, and from there, the two contestants with the least amount of votes would be unmasked.
The first face-off of the night was Galaxy Girl vs Handyman.
In Galaxy Girl’s clue package, she said that from a young age, she was on top of the world, accepted in the best schools on scholarship, and the youngest on stage, all before she could even drive. She then said that she is human, and perfection was never her thing, so she walked away, and was lost in the background for years, but she knew there was something even bigger in the world for her. So, she worked her butt off and her rise was meteoric, and she was feeling a gravitational pull towards The Masked Singer Stage, and she had been curious about doing the show for a while. Visual clues included a glowing heart-shaped rock, a constellation, a shooting star, a sign that read “Welcome 2 LA,” and a calendar that read Friday the 13th.
She then went on to give a great performance of Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl by Chappell Roan, which I feel was a perfect song for her to showcase her voice, and a great performance to start off the season.
I agree with the popular guess on the internet right now, which is that Galaxy Girl is Ashlee Simpson. The Friday the 13th is referring to her song on the Freaky Friday soundtrack, and the “Welcome 2 LA” sign is referring to her song La La, and an additional clue is the fact that before the show premiered, her sister Jessica Simpson said that she knew who one of the contestants was.
After that, it was time to meet Handyman. In his clue package, he said that he grew up on the west coast, and as a kid, he was scrappy, a tough guy, and he rode with an interesting crew. He then said that he was never looking for trouble, so he used his image to shift gears, and suddenly the crowd he was rolling with included people like Robert De Niro and Courtney Cox. Visual clues included a blueprint, a hot cup of tea, and a license plate that read “Ace Of Spades.”
He then went on to give a good performance of Shake Your Groove Thing by Peaches & Herb, and while he doesn’t have the best voice, I still found the performance enjoyable, though I noticed that the backing vocals were doing a lot of work here.
After the performance, we were treated to a funny moment, in which Rita was beginning to explain how she got to her guess, and while she was starting, Robin literally interrupted her because at that moment in time, he recognized the voice.
I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is also the guess that Robin made, which is that Handyman is rapper and actor Tone Lōc. He grew up in Los Angeles and was part of street crews, and then “shifted gears” to find stardom, he starred alongside Robert De Niro in the movie Heat and Courtney Cox in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, which also explains “Ace Of Spades,” and the hot cup of tea is referring to the fact that when he was younger, he burned his throat from drinking hot tea, which gave him his signature raspy voice.
After that, it was time for the results of the face-off, and Galaxy Girl was declared the winner, which did not surprise me, which meant that Handyman was now at risk of getting unmasked.
From there it was time for the second face-off, which was between Pugcasso and Queen Corgi.
Pugcasso was up first, and in his clue package, he said that he was supposed to take over the family business, but sometimes you have to color outside the lines, like the time he threw his name in the hat on something big and his life changed overnight. He then said that he joined an ensemble of dreamers just like him, and he went from nobody to top dog, which is something only a handful of artists have achieved. Visual clues included a door sign that said “All Star,” a painting of home plate in baseball, Big Ben, Pugcasso winning a first place trophy, and a marquee that said “Pugcasso Studio Live.”
He then went on to give an amazing performance of Ordinary by Alex Warren, during which he showed off all the power he has in his voice.
One of the popular guesses for Pugcasso right now is Chord Overstreet from Glee, and while I do agree that it could be him, there is another guess that hasn’t gained as much traction that I feel could be correct: Phillip Phillips. He didn’t go into the business of his family’s pawn shop, instead pursuing a music career on American Idol, which he won, and the home plate is referring to his song Home.
After that, it was time for Queen Corgi. In her clue package, she said that college was not for her, so she was hanging out in her dorm, being herself, doing what she loves, and people started paying attention, a few at first and then an actual audience. Then she realized that she could make a living from it, but everyone thought she was crazy, her friends, her family, and her professors all told her not to, but she didn’t wait for permission and didn’t follow the rules, and now they call her a trailblazer. Visual clues included the halls of a school, mouthwash, a ring light, the words “Live From New York” on her laptop, reaction emojis, an “F” in physics, and a microphone trophy.
She then went on to give a surprisingly very good performance of Don’t Rain On My Parade by Barbra Streisand.
I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Queen Corgi is podcast host Claudia Oshry. I don’t know how any of these clues apply to her, but a few weeks ago, the costume was at a location that served as a clue for the costume, which was a restaurant called Bravo Toast, and she was also holding a “Help Wanted” sign. In the process of doing research, I found that there was a podcast called The Toast, and Jenny McCarthy was recently a guest on this podcast, where she and Claudia Oshry talked about The Masked Singer and Jenny was telling her to be a contestant, and then I found that her Instagram handle is Girl With No Job, and that’s how I agree with that guess.
After that, it was time for the vote, and the winner of this face-off was Pugcasso, which did not surprise me.
From there, it was time for the third face-off, which was between Scarab and The Croissants. As soon as The Croissants walked out, I saw that they literally had a ball and chain around their legs like prisoners in a chain gang, and I laughed and groaned HARD, because they were leaning so hard into who was underneath the masks, and don’t worry, I’ll get to them.
The first person in this face-off was Scarab. In her clue package, an announcer described her as being the most decorated we have ever seen and having risen as high as any star in the heavens, and then she said that she has done it all, met presidents, dined with Brad Pitt, and even Prince knew her name. She then said that she has a lot of gold on her trophy shelf and was proud of what she has achieved, but she has been at it for a long time, and while most people would be thinking about retirement, she was looking for something new to inspire her. Visual clues included a golden globe, a lion, and the scales of justice.
She then went on to give an amazing performance of Set Fire To The Rain by Adele, during which she showed off all the power in her voice.
After her performance, she said that her reasoning for being on The Masked Singer was Beetlejuice logic, as the panelists kept saying her name, so she decided to show up and show them who the real Beetlejuice is.
I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Scarab is Taraji P Henson. The lion is referring to her character Cookie Lyon on Empire, she starred alongside Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and she has spoken publicly about being a Prince superfan. The costume was also one that was spotted at a location that served as a clue to her identity, and in this case, the costume was outside Fox Studios and holding a cookie, which is another clue to her playing Cookie on the show Empire.
After that, it was time for The Croissants. In their clue package, an announcer said that socialites living at the top, and it all came crumbling down. The Croissants themselves then said that they were inseparable, until they were torn apart, and that they were cancelled, separated, and didn’t know when they would see each other again, and that it was the darkest moment of their lives. Just when they thought that all hope was lost, a miracle happened out of nowhere, and now they’re back and reunited, and they feel everyone had the wrong idea about them, so they’re on the show to change it. Okay, just by reading what I just wrote, you can probably guess who The Croissants are.
They then went on to perform Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley (Do you get it? Do you get it?! DO YOU GET IT?!?!) While I was expecting an absolute train wreck of a performance, I was shocked to find that it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be. I’m not saying that it was a great performance, or even a good one, but it wasn’t the worst thing I have ever heard in my life.
For those of you who haven’t figured it out yet, here’s who they are: Todd & Julie Chrisley. To say that they leaned into it being them would be a massive understatement, as I can’t think of another time that they went out of their way to tell us who a contestant was without actually spoiling it themselves.
What I found funny was that Jenny was the only one to guess correctly, as Robin guessed Snooki and The Situation, despite the fact that they had very southern accents, and Rita guessed Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, which is actually very funny for reasons that I will get to.
Unsurprisingly, the winner of the face-off was The Scarab.
The fourth face-off was between Snow Cone and Stingray.
Snow Cone was up first, and in her clue package, she was in a support group where she said that she was there to clear the air, as she has been misunderstood. She then said that from day one, she knew she was destined for stardom, as while she was just modeling snow boots for a kids’ catalog, she was the whole package. She then said that she finally got her big break by landing a role on one of TV’s hottest shows, until one moment spoiled everything, and she was kicked to the curb. She then said that the headlines started saying lies about her as a result, Hollywood iced her out, and ever since then, she has been trying to shake that image. Visual clues included a sneaker with “CO” on it, an old TV stand, a sign that said “Celebrity Exit,” a headline that said “SnowCone Is Alive,” a sash that said “America’s Sweetheart,” and just as her performance was starting, there was a male snow cone salesman on the stage, which one of the Men In Black was holding an arrow next to that said “Clue.”
She then went on to give a very fun and energetic performance of When I Grow Up by The Pussycat Dolls, which was perfect for her voice.
I agree with the consensus on the internet, which is that Snow Cone is Heidi Montag. Yeah, see why I said Rita’s guess for The Croissants was funny? She guessed incorrectly, but the person she guessed ended up not only being on the season, not only on the same episode, but the very next performance. The CO on the sneaker is referring to her home state of Colorado, and the male snow cone salesman was supposed to be a reference to her husband Spencer Pratt.
After that, it was time for Stingray to perform. In his clue package, he said that he has been everywhere, from Michelin to Met Gala, he says yes to it all, and in his early days, he might have been known to mix it up on Sunset Boulevard. He then said that it all started when he was a kid, and his mom hosted amazing parties with legends like Michael, Luther, and Stevie, and some of his earliest memories were sneaking out of bed to sit at the top of the stairs to catch a glimpse of the gold and glamor, and to this day, he doesn’t like to miss out on a good time, and the reason why he was there was because he has so many friends that have done the show and loved it. Visual clues included a portrait of Paris Hilton and an ant.
He then went on to give a great performance of Stayin’ Alive by The Bee Gees, which was perfect for his voice.
I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Stingray is Evan Ross. He is the son of legendary singer Diana Ross, the picture of Paris Hilton is referring to the fact that he is good friends with her and has a song called Paris, and the ant is referring to the fact that he used to date Aubrey O’Day, who was The Ant last season.
Here’s an additional interesting fact about Evan Ross. He has an equally famous wife that you might have heard of, her name is Ashlee Simpson. Yes, you read that correctly. A husband and wife are competing this season on The Masked Singer, but they are not competing together.
This was the only face-off of the night where I felt like it could have gone either way, and it wouldn’t surprise me, and that certainly was the case, as my mom was saying that the winner was Snow Cone, but the winner was then announced to be Stingray.
After that, it was time for the final face-off of the night between Googly Eyes and Cat Witch.
Up first was Googly Eyes, and I am not going to go over his clues, as he was unmasked, so I will just talk about his performance.
I don’t even know if I can even call what he did a performance, as the song he “performed” was Turn Down For What by Lil Jon and DJ Snake, which is a song that has very few lyrics, and most of what it has are just the title screamed over and over again. I can’t say that it was not close to the original song, because it was, nor can I say that it was good as a result, because he was just screaming everything.
After that, it was time for Cat Witch to perform. I am not going to go over the clues for her, because we already know that this is the costume worn by Masked Insider Kylie Cantrall.
She gave an amazing performance of Abracadabra by Lady Gaga, during which she showed off all the power and energy in her voice.
While we already know who it is, it will be interesting to see if Rita is ever able to guess her, as Kylie Cantrall played her daughter in the Descendants movies.
After that, Cat Witch was declared the winner of the face-off, which did not surprise me, and had me wondering if The Croissants or Googly Eyes would be unmasked first.
After that, it was time for the first unmasking of the night, which was Googly Eyes. The internet and Ken were proven to be right, as he was revealed to be former baseball player and three time World Series champion David Ortiz AKA Big Papi.
After that, it was time for The Croissants to unmask, and Ken gave one of the worst guesses he has ever made, which is saying a lot, as he guessed them to be Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
The episode ended before we could actually see them get unmasked, so we will see it at the start of the next episode, but I am going to say it again they are absolutely 100% Todd & Julie Chrisley.
Overall, this was an amazing start to Season 14 of The Masked Singer, and I’ll see you all next week in Fear Night when we meet the next five contestants!
