Clueless Night

After another amazing episode last week with Fear Night, it was time for the next episode, Clueless Night! I was looking forward to this episode for a number of reasons, including the fact that we were going to hear several amazing singers again, and we would also be meeting the first Wildcard Contestant of the season.

The episode started off the same way that many episodes with returning contestants begin: with a group performance from all four of them of a song pertaining to that episode’s theme. In this case, the episode started off with the four returning contestants performing Kids In America by Kim Wilde. As I have said many times before, I always enjoy these group performances, as it gives all the contestants a chance to stand out together.

At this point in the episode, Nick announced two very important things, which were that we would be meeting the first Wildcard Contestant of the season, and there would also be a double unmasking.

The first performer of the night was Snow Cone. In her clue package, she talked about how there was one album that everyone needs, which is hers. She then said that she poured everything she had into it, even turning down a record deal with David Foster, but when she released it, nobody bought it. She then said that for years, she was devastated, but when she was at her lowest point, everyone rallied behind her, fans started buying her music again, and her once-abandoned album became Number 1. Visual clues included a yearbook, a price tag of $19.84, and a male Snow Cone hype man introduced her performance.

She then went on to give a great performance of Stronger by Britney Spears, during which she showed off all the power and energy in her voice.

After every performance, additional clues were given in the form of scenes from the movie Clueless being recreated. For Snow Cone, a dial up modem computer displayed the word “Rebooting,” to which she said that life has taken everything away from her so many times, but she keeps getting up for her family and kids.

I still agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Snow Cone is Heidi Montag. She did release an album that sold incredibly poorly back in 2010, but when she lost her home in the Pacific Palisades Fire last January, her fans rallied around her and her album ended up ranking number one in the United States.

The next performer of the night was The Scarab. I won’t get into her clue package too much, but I will say that I saw so many things that just made me even more confident in my guess, such as a rocket ship and a clock that said “Most Influential,” which told me it was someone on Time’s Most Influential.

She then went on to give an amazing performance of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, which was done in more of a slow ballad style, which allowed her to show off all the power and emotion in her voice.

After the performance, an additional clue was brought out in a microwave, which was cookie dough, which confirmed even more in my mind that Scarab was Taraji P Henson.

The next performer of the night was Handyman. Again, I won’t get much into his clue package, but it consisted of him telling a story about how an accident gave him his raspy voice, and having done some research prior told me that it was still who I thought it was.

He then went on to perform Can I Kick It by A Tribe Called Quest, which was a very entertaining performance, even though most of what he sang was just the title.

If you’re curious as to who I thought it was, the answer is Tone Loc.

I would also like to add that at this point in time, seeing that it was 8:31, and the show still had two more performances to get to, one of which would require them to introduce a brand new contestant, I was fairly confident that the double unmasking would work with one happening this week, and the other one happening next week.

The next performer of the night was Pugcasso. In his clue package, he said that he came from a small town, and he thought he knew everybody, but then he saw her, and instantly his heart started beating. He then said that a few weeks later, he saw her again, and life was trying to tell him something, so he took his shot, and that was it. He then said that they were so in love, until he was asked to hit the road and move a world away from his girl, and when he got to the airport, there she was with a suitcase in hand. Visual clues included a sign that said “Bye Bye Bye” and a matchbox.

He then went on to give an amazing performance of Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead, during which he showed off all the power and emotion in his voice. He also really impressed both of my parents, with it being one of the few performances that blew my mom away, and my dad saying that he had to make it to the finals.

After the performance, an additional clue was brought out, which was a Hawaiian shirt, and he said that he likes the beach and he likes cameras.

I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Pugcasso is American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. He met his future wife in his small hometown of Albany, Georgia, she traveled with him to American Idol when he was a contestant in 2012, they married in 2014 and she went on tour with him before and after the wedding, The sign saying “Bye Bye Bye” is referring to his song Gone Gone Gone, the matchbox is because he has gone on tour with Matchbox Twenty, and the Hawaiian shirt is because he was on an episode of Hawaii Five-O.

After that, it was time to meet the first Wildcard Contestant of the season, which was Crane. The bird, by the way, not the construction vehicle. In her clue package, she said that it was seamless for her to make her debut on Clueless Night, as the 90s represent everything she does, and she does it all, such as primetime, film, and billions of streams, and she has brushed wings with Janet Jackson, Michelle Obama, and even Angelina Jolie is a fan. She then said that she has had to work ten times harder just to be seen, and at times her confidence was shattered, so she spent many transformative years taking control over her destiny. Visual clues included a bowl of sugar, a diamond, and a nutcracker.

She then went on to give an amazing performance of It’s Not Right But It’s Okay by Whitney Houston, during which she showed off all the power in her voice and her amazing dancing ability, even managing to do the splits.

After the performance, an additional clue was brought out, which was a pair of pink ballet slippers, and she then said that she was not one to shy away from center stage.

I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Crane is Normani from Fifth Harmony. She has been in primetime, as she got her start on The X Factor, she appeared in the movie Freaky Tales, two of her songs have a billion streams on Spotify, the diamond is referring to her song Diamonds, the nutcracker is referring to her many Christmas songs, the ballet shoes are referring to her dance and ballet background, the bowl of sugar could be referring to her being on an episode of the show Sugar, she performed a tribute to Janet Jackson at an award show, she performed at the White House in 2014 and 2015, and she has met and been photographed with Angelina Jolie before.

After that, it was time for the unmaskings to begin, and at this point, I pretty much knew that one would happen this week, and the other would happen next week.

The first unmasking of the night was Handyman, which did not surprise me at all. The internet and Robin were proven to be right once again, as he was revealed to be rapper and actor Tone Loc. While I heard him talking, that was when I realized just how raspy his voice really is. For his unmasked encore performance, he sang a snippet of his song Wild Thing, which made me happy that they are continuing the tradition of letting certain unmasked contestants perform their signature song as their encore.

Immediately after that, the second unmasking was announced, which told me that we were going to see it at that moment.

The second unmasking of the night was easily one of the most shocking moments of the entire series for me, as it was revealed to be Scarab. The only reason this makes sense to me in my mind is if she agreed to only do two episodes.

Scarab then unmasked, and the internet and Rita at the last minute were proven to be right yet again, as she was revealed to be Taraji P Henson.

Overall, this was another great episode of Season 14 of The Masked Singer, and I’ll see you all next week with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night!
