Encore Performances
Hello everyone!
With tapings for Season 14 of The Masked Singer about to wrap up, and a trailer having dropped last week, I feel it only makes sense that I make another blog post about one of my favorite shows!
Today, I am going to talk about Unmasked Encore Performances. In the early seasons, these would be the unmasked contestants performing the song they had just performed earlier that night or another song they had earlier in the season, and that is still the case for many contestants. But ever since Season 8, some contestants who are singers have had their Unmasked Encore Performance be the song that they are most famous for. I actually made a post about this a while back, so I’m not going to write about it again. Instead, I am going to talk about three times that an Unmasked Encore Performance Song was performed by a contestant seasons later, three Unmasked Encore Performance Songs that I don’t think will ever be performed, and several Unmasked Encore Performance Songs that should be performed.
The first instance of this happening was with the song I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. The song served as her Unmasked Encore Performance, and then on Disco Night in Season 10, it served as the song that Janel Parrish and Ne-Yo sang in the Battle Royale. I think they both did a great job at it, though I was a little surprised that Ne-Yo went through first, as I thought Janel Parrish was a little better.
The next instance of this happening was with the song Hold On by Wilson Phillips. The song served as their Unmasked Encore Performance in Season 8, and then it was performed by Corey Feldman on Girl Group Night in Season 11. I personally think that he did a good job with his performance, as I felt that the rock edge he gave it actually worked, though if you disagree with me, I completely understand.
The last instance of this happening was with the song Miss Independent by Ne-Yo. The song served as his Unmasked Encore Performance in Season 10, and then it was performed by Kobie Turner on Barbie Night in Season 12. I personally think that he did an amazing job at performing it, especially considering he is a football player, and has one of the best voices of any of the athletes to do the show.
Now I am going to talk about four Unmasked Encore Songs that would not serve as good songs to perform on the show.
The first song in my opinion is Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life from Monty Python, which was performed by Eric Idle. This is a song that is too much of a joke to be performed by anyone who is trying to win. The only way I could maybe see it being performed is if there is a contestant who is just there as a joke, because it would make sense for them to perform it.
The next Encore Song that would not make a good performance in my opinion is Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. There are two main reasons for this one. The first is that it can only be performed on a Halloween themed episode, which would also have to air at Halloween. And even with all these very specific criteria, I feel that it’s too much of a novelty song to be a good performance.
The next Encore Song that would not make a good performance in my opinion is Give Up The Funk by Parliament-Funkadelic. While I do think that it is a great song, it has very few lyrics, and what lyrics it does have are just the same thing repeated over and over again, which would not make for a good performance.
The last Encore Song that would not make a good performance in my opinion is Thong Song by Sisqo. I just feel that the lyrics are way too dirty to allow for a good performance, and I am saying that knowing full well that it was Sisqo’s Unmasked Encore and that he did a great job with it.
Now I am going to go over Encore Songs that would make great performances.
The first Encore Song that I feel would make a great performance is I Don’t Want To Wait by Paula Cole. It is just such a beautiful song that I feel an amazing female singer could pull off, and even though it is the theme song for the show Dawson’s Creek, I feel that it is good enough to be performed on an episode that is not a TV Theme Night.
The next Encore Song that I feel would make a great performance is Motownphilly by Boyz II Men. It is just such a fun song that will get the audience dancing, and could also make for an entertaining performance.
The next Encore Songs that I feel would make great performances are Potential Breakup Song by Aly & AJ and Let Me Love You by Mario, as I feel they would be great if the show ever has another 2000s Night.
The next Encore Song that I feel would make for a good performance is I Try by Macy Gray, which I feel could be performed well by any R&B singer.
The next Encore Song that I feel would make for a great performance is Don’t Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston, which could be performed by any legendary diva or R&B singer.
The next Encore Song that I feel would make for a great performance is I’ll Be by Edwin McCain. It’s just such a powerful song that any amazing singer could do an amazing job at performing.
The last Encore Song that I feel would make for a great performance is Don’t Give Up On Me by Andy Grammer. It’s another powerful song that any great singer could do a great job at performing.
I hope you all enjoyed reading this blog post, and I’ll see you all soon with another one!
