Fun Facts About The Masked Singer

Hello everybody!

It has been a while since I made a blog post about The Masked Singer, so let’s change that today!

It’s going to be a little difficult, as there is not going to be a new season for a while, so for this post, I am going to present you all an idea that I have had for a while, a list of random fun facts about the show!

My knowledge of all the little details about the show is quite big, and The Masked Singer Wiki also has some information as well, so I’m going to share with you today everything you probably didn’t know about the show.

So here are some fun facts about The Masked Singer!

In one episode of Season 4, not only were two Celine Dion songs were performed, they were also by the same contestants, The Snow Owls, Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black.

There were two completely different songs performed in Season 4 that were both called “I Wish,” with Lonzo Ball performing the song by Skee-Lo, and Aloe Blacc performing the song by Stevie Wonder.

There are weirdly two songs performed in Season 8 that featured the lyric “Fee Fi Fo Fum.” Yes, I am being completely serious. They were Get Ready by The Temptations and Devil with the Blue Dress On by Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels.

Two completely different songs called “Gravity” were performed in the Season 7 and Season 8 Finales.

Several costumes on Season 11 were repurposed from the Canadian Version, perhaps due to the costume designer leaving on short notice and there being very little time at all between Season 10 and Season 11 taping. These costumes are Afghan Hound, Lizard, Sir Lion, Lovebird, and Seal.

La Toya Jackson’s performance of Ex’s and Oh’s is the shortest performance in the show’s history.

The Ant costume from Season 13 was originally going to be called Ant of Green Gables. I don’t know about all of you, but I think that was a smart decision to change the name.

John Oates is the only contestant in Season 10 to not have an unmasked performance. If I had to guess, he did have one and it was a Hall & Oates song, but since Daryl Hall was suing him at the time, they cut it out.

The Astronaut costume in Season 3 was worn by Hunter Hayes, but it was originally going to be worn by Bow Wow, who ended up wearing The Frog costume after he saw it and fell in love with it.

While the most common way of revealing which celebrity is underneath the mask is by removing the costume’s head, there are some exceptions to this, like The Avocado, which didn’t have any part of the costume removed at all, but rather the top half being peeled down.

While WWE Star Alexa Bliss was only on one episode of Season 9, she revealed that if she had stayed on, she would have performed Check Yes, Juliet by We The Kings and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman, and she also had a dance planned for the Battle Royale.

Jenny McCarthy guessed that The Rabbit was her husband Donnie Wahlberg, and ended up being wrong. A few seasons later, he actually was on the show in the form of character Cluedle Doo…. And Jenny failed to guess him even after hearing him sing.

There have been three different songs called “Stay” performed on the show, as Jesse McCartney performed the Alessia Cara song, Chloe Kim performed the Rihanna song, and Brian Kelley performed the Sugarland song.

Baby from Season 6 was revealed to be Larry the Cable Guy, who also happened to be Robin Thicke’s First Impression Guess for Mallard that same season.

Had Larry the Cable Guy lasted another episode, his next performance would have been Vehicle by The Ides of March.

Baby Alien from Season 4 was the first costume in the entire franchise to be represented by a puppet.

Sharon Osbourne is one of two guest panelists to say correctly who was underneath the mask during their performance, but unlike Kenan Thompson who was asked by Ken who he thought The Bee was, Sharon said unprompted that The Banana was Bret Michaels.

Bret Michaels is the first contestant to invite audience members on the stage for his encore performance.

There have been only two times in the entire show that the panelists have been unanimous in their guesses, and it was with guessing that Sea Queen was Macy Gray and that The Buffalos were Boyz II Men.

Banana Split is the only group contestant in the show to have one member not sing at all.

Banana Split is also the only contestant with the most correct First Impression Guesses from the panel.

Gladys Knight is the oldest finalist so far in the entire series.

Between her first and second performances, the costume designers had altered the open mouth of The Bee costume to make it easier for Gladys Knight to sing.

Jerry Springer’s time as a contestant on the show was his final appearance on television before his death.

During Lizard’s performance of Uptown Girl, The Lemur costume was off to the side, as she was Christie Brinkley a few seasons beforehand, and she was also in the original music video.

During The Beets’ performance of I’m So Excited, The Cupcake costume was off to the side, as she was Ruth Pointer a few seasons beforehand, and they were performing her song.

Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard’s Beet costumes had names. Clay’s costume was called Green, and Ruben’s was called Beety, which explains the lyric change to add the word “Beety” into their performance of the song Home by Michael Buble.

Before Raven Symone’s second performance, she had broken her arm, and spent the rest of her time on the show wearing a cast while in her costume.

On the two seasons that featured celebrities that had been on international versions, it was always two celebrities. In Season 10, it was Macy Gray and Ne-Yo, and in Season 12, it was Natalie Imbruglia and Drake Bell.

There have been Six Finalists that were not guessed correctly. They were T-Pain, Chris Daughtry, Hayley Orrantia, Janel Parrish, Scott Porter, and Andy Grammer.

Andy Grammer made a TikTok post about his time on the show, and fellow contestant Edwin McCain commented that he had him picked to win.

Kevin Hart is the only contestant to do the show with the intention of quitting and messing with Nick Cannon.

The Bride Costume was unmasked in a unique way, as only the neck plate was removed.

Had Chris Jericho made it to Fright Night, his performance on that night would have been I Just Died In Your Arms.

Broccoli’s voice was pitched down during the Sneak Peek for Season 4, and then pitched up during the entire season.

The Buffalos have a lot of interesting trivia about them, so hang in there.

They were initially announced as one Buffalo, before revealing they were a trio during their first performance.

They are the first contestants to have two promotional pictures.

They are the oldest winners in the series so far.

They are also the first group to win the competition.

Each Buffalo had a name, which were Maroon, Olive, and Goldie.

Their performance of Too Good at Goodbyes is the longest performance in the show’s history.

Boyz II Men were also originally going to be on Season 9 as The French Hens, but Wanya Morris tested positive for COVID, so they dropped out. Due to the format of that season, I can say that this was a good thing, as it would have resulted in us getting either fewer performances from Bishop Briggs or fewer performances from Boyz II Men.

Todrick Hall accidentally found out during production of Season 6 that his fellow competitor Skunk was Faith Evans, resulting in their trailers being separated from each other.

Todrick Hall is the first contestant to keep his costume, which was The Bull, after the show.

Earlier in Season 5, Nicole guessed that The Chameleon was Nick Cannon, who missed the first five episodes due to testing positive for COVID, and he ended up being The Bulldog in the Fifth Episode.

During a rehearsal in Season 2, Michelle Williams got shocked due to a short-circuit on stage.

Michelle Williams went on to compete on the UK and Australia versions of The Masked Singer.

California Roll is the largest group contestant on the show so far, as they were Pentatonix, which has five members.

The Caterpillar from Season 6 is the longest costume on the show so far.

The Chameleon costume had movable eyes, a glow in the dark version for one performance, and a much longer tongue for that same performance.

The Cherry Blossom costume had a birdhouse on it, which was a clue that Candace Cameron Bure from Full House was in the costume.

Coral, who was Meg Donnelly, is the youngest celebrity to make it to The Finale so far, at 24 years old.

Ne-Yo is the first contestant to perform a song he wrote, as his last performance was Take a Bow by Rihanna, which he wrote.

The Cow costume was originally going to be called Milkmaid. Yet again, they made the right choice with the name of the costume.

In Season 5, there were two episodes in which a song by New Edition was performed, and after these two episodes aired, Bobby Brown, who is a member of New Edition, was revealed to be The Crab.

Nick Carter revealed in an interview that he was initially supposed to be The Turtle in Season 3, but he was unable to do so, so Jesse McCartney took his place, and Nick Carter ended up being The Crocodile in Season 4.

Despite the fact that Cuddle Monster is the biggest costume in the show’s history, it was not worn by the tallest celebrity that has competed, as Metta World Peace, who wore the costume, is 6’7”, while Dwight Howard, who was The Octopus in Season 6, is 6’10”.

The Cupcake from Season 6 was supposed to be a Duo Costume, as it was supposed to be both Anita Pointer and Ruth Pointer competing together, and they even built the second Cupcake, but due to health issues, Anita couldn’t compete, so Ruth competed by herself.

Even though Dalmatian was the first costume of Season 6 to be revealed to the public, he was the first contestant in Group B to be unmasked.

There have been four contestants to perform instruments as part of their performances. They are Banana, Banana Split, McTerrier, and Dandelion.

The first contestant that was correctly guessed at the end of the show by any panelist was Terry Bradshaw, who is also the only correct guess of recurring guest panelist Joel McHale.

The octopus on The Diver costume was apparently nicknamed Octavia.

Dee Snider was asked to do the show all the way back in Season 1, but he declined and said that the show would never work, and was eventually a contestant on Season 9.

If Dee Snider had made it to Space Night, he was planning to sing The Final Countdown by Europe.

After Dee Snider removed the head of The Doll costume, the hair came off as the head hit the ground.

John Schneider is the oldest Runner Up on the show, at 63 years old at the time.

The Dragon from Season 4 is the only contestant to have a never before seen Clue Package released to the internet after he was unmasked.

Dr. Drew Pinsky revealed that he suffered vocal cord injury while preparing for the show.

Tony Hawk specifically chose to sing Friday, I’m In Love because another song by The Cure was the first dance at his wedding.

There are two contestants who first appeared in Season 7 as Celebrity Besties, and they are Holly Robinson Peete and John Oates.

Before Season 7 actually started, Firefly had a different face in the first trailer and the beginning of her first clue package.

Season 2 weirdly had two past members of The Cheetah Girls not only competing as contestants, but also in the same group.

Adrienne Bailon Houghton performed Lady Marmalade by Patti LaBelle as one of her performances on a night where Patti LaBelle was performing and also unmasked.

If you were to look closely at the cards that Fortune Teller is holding in his promo picture, you would see that they have three past contestants, The Sun, The Snow Owls, and The Lemur.

Wayne Brady was offered to be a contestant on the first season, but he turned it down, thinking that it would be a joke. After seeing the first season, however, he immediately wanted to be a contestant on Season 2.

The Fox costume that Wayne Brady had was the first contestant to use a headset microphone.

The frog head that is displayed on the screens during four of The Frog’s performances is actually from the concept art of the costume.

Oscar De La Hoya is the first celebrity to compete on both the short lived spinoff The Masked Dancer and The Masked Singer. I hope that this means that eventually we will have Brian McKnight and Jordin Sparks as contestants.

Despite the fact that one of the Theme Nights in Season 10 was I Wanna Rock Night and it even opened with the song I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister blasting over the speakers, Dee Snider did not make a guest appearance in the episode.

In a post to her Instagram last year, Janel Parrish shared behind the scenes footage of rehearsals, where she showed that if the had made to the Final Two in the Season 10 Finale, she would have performed Into You by Ariana Grande.

The Giraffe is the tallest costume on the show so far.

Brian Austin Green was given two costumes to choose from when he was on the show, and they were Giraffe and Serpent. He chose The Giraffe, and The Serpent went to Dr. Elvis Francois.

Brian Austin Green said that the first song he wanted to perform on the show was When I Get You Alone by Robin Thicke.

Dick Van Dyke is the oldest celebrity to ever compete on the show.

For his unmasked performance, Dick Van Dyke was originally going to sing Chim Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins, but he wanted to sing a more peppy song, so he performed Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious instead.

Dick Van Dyke went to the show and asked about being on after being told about it from Eric Idle, who was on the previous season.

The Season 11 Finale featured Vanessa Hudgens and Scott Porter, who also both starred in the movie Bandslam, and Vanessa Hudgens beat Scott Porter on the show, just like she did in the movie.

The Aries Sign on Goo’s bow tie was referring to the Los Angeles Rams, which is the team Kobie Turner, the celebrity under the mask, plays for, and weirdly it first appeared during his second appearance.

Goo is also the tallest costume in the series so far, at eleven feet tall.

Laverne Cox is the first contestant to have all the songs she performed be songs that were already performed at that point in the show.

Andy Richter had been asked to be on the show some time before he actually became a contestant on Season 12, but he had to turn it down at the time due to scheduling commitments with Conan.

Andy Richter admitted that he was surprised that Dick Van Dyke was his Masked Ambassador, and I agree with him, as they seemingly have no connection whatsoever.

There are two contestants that Ken Jeong never got to see in person on the show, and they are George Foreman and George Clinton.

Logan Paul wore a headset under the mask when he was unmasked, but when he performed Bad Reputation unmasked, he used the costume’s microphone.

Mickey Rourke is the first contestant to quit the competition rather than participate in a traditional elimination.

Dr. Elvis Francois revealed that he was supposed to be The Gremlin, but he ended up being The Serpent and The Gremlin costume went to Mickey Rourke.

James Van Der Beek revealed that he arranged for his children to be sent to The Masked Singer studio when it was made clear to him that he wouldn’t last beyond the Group B Finals, banking on his kids being in the audience to see him unmask, but the production team did him one better and arranged for his kids to surprise him on stage instead.

Scott Porter’s Gumball costume had a blue band on its right wrist, and the reason why is because he has one that he almost never takes off from the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

Scott Porter revealed that all the people working with him was made up of two producers, one sound tech, two costumers, four PA’s, one music producer, and one vocal coach, and that the total number of people working there that knew he was on the show was about 15-20 people.

If Rob Schneider had made it to the Group A Semifinals, he was planning on singing Amish Paradise by Weird Al Yankovic.

Rob Schneider is the first contestant to perform a song in Spanish.

After Amber Riley competed on Season 8 and won, she competed on Season 4 of the UK Version.

Eric Idle was able to perform Love Me Do by The Beatles due to his friendship with Paul McCartney, and since Paul himself wrote the song, which makes it the only time we will ever hear a Beatles song on the show.

Eric Idle was also backed by the USC Trojan Marching Band for his performance.

Eric Idle also kicked off a tradition that is still part of the show to this day, as whenever a contestant that is a famous singer gets unmasked, they perform their signature song as their unmasked encore performance. Yes, that’s right, one of the best traditions introduced late in the show’s run was started by the guy from Monty Python singing Alway Look on the Bright Side of Life.

There have been a total of six celebrities who first appeared as guests on the show that later became contestants. They are Michael Bolton, Anthony Anderson, Luann de Lesseps, Kate Flannery, Chrissy Metz, and Yvette Nicole Brown.

The first celebrity ever unmasked on the show was Antonio Brown.

Cedric The Entertainer is the first celebrity to be the first performer of a season and also be the first celebrity unmasked in that season.

There have been two celebrities whose reveals were left as cliffhangers for the next episode, and they were Vivica A Fox in Season 6 and Chris Kirkpatrick in Season 8.

On August 24, 2022, a full month before Season 8 premiered, TMZ released a clip from the first episode where Ken was shown guessing that The Hummingbird was Tom Brady, as they were leaning into the rumor that Tom Brady had been missing practices to be on The Masked Singer.

For whatever reason, the collar on The Husky costume was missing during his final episode.

The concept art for The Hydra was originally made for Season 3, and the costume ended up being part of the show in Season 7.

If they had lasted one more episode, Penn and Teller said their next performance would have been Karma Chameleon by Culture Club.

Penn and Teller in The Hydra costume was very difficult, as the costume had three legs, and the only way it could work was if Penn occupied two legs and Teller had both of his legs in one leg, and when it came time to unmask, the costume literally had to be destroyed.

Tyler “Ninja” Blevins was the first internet celebrity to be a contestant.

Drake Bell revealed that if he had made it to the Group C Finals, he would have performed Burning Love by Elvis Presley.

Lele Pons is the first celebrity to compete on an international version of The Masked Singer before competing on the American version.

Lele Pons is also the first celebrity to compete on The Masked Singer and Dancing with the Stars in the same year.

Tom Bergeron revealed that he had two choices of costumes in Season 3, which were Taco and Jellyfish. He chose to go with The Taco, and The Jellyfish ended up being worn by Chloe Kim in Season 4.

The Jester costume was originally going to have a VERY visible codpiece on it, but after producers said that the costume would have to be censored as a result, it was removed.

Jordyn Woods revealed that if she made it to the Top 6, she would have performed All the Stars by Kendrick Lamar.

Jackie Evancho is the first America’s Got Talent contestant to be a contestant on The Masked Singer.

William Shatner randomly appeared in the first episode of Season 12 to introduce the show for some reason. I still have no idea why he was there, as he was not a Masked Ambassador, and he didn’t appear again after introducing the show.

One of the guesses for Knight was Jerry Springer, who was revealed to be The Beetle later that same season.

Supposedly, if William Shatner had a second performance, he was going to perform “a rap song.” I’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse that we never got to see Captain Kirk perform a rap song.

Koala might be the first contestant whose performance literally started off outside the building where the show is taped.

The Koala was originally going to be called Cavalier Koala. I feel this is another smart change.

Anne Heche was originally going to be a contestant on Season 8, but she tragically passed away days before production began.

Kelly Osbourne was the first British celebrity to participate in the show.

Much like The Buffalos and The Beets, The Lambs were all given names. The Pink Lamb’s name was Rose, The Blue Lamb’s name was Blueberry, and The Purple Lamb’s name was Lilac.

The Lamp from Season 9 is the first costume to be based on a furniture item.

There have been a total of five armless costumes on the show. They are Baby Alien, Snail, Russian Dolls, Beach Ball, and Leaf Sheep.

Christie Brinkley revealed that the next song she would have performed was The Girl from Ipanema by Vinicius de Moraes, in which she learned the entire song in Portuguese for. While I am not the biggest fan of Season 7, I think it’s impressive that she went to that level of commitment.

Both times that Seal landed in the Smackdown Round, it was because he was beaten by a member of The Cheetah Girls.

Wendy Williams was offered to join Season 2 as The Tree, but she declined, and was later The Lips in Season 4.

While Wendy Williams was being interviewed by Seth Meyers in September 2020, Seth showed showed an image from her Instagram of her wearing a visor from The Masked Singer, to which she said that she had traveled to Los Angeles for stuff to do for her talk show.

Wendy Williams revealed that if she had lasted another episode, she would have performed Party All the Time by Eddie Murphy.

Rita Ora’s first correct guess on the American Version was Sisqo.

The Llama was the first costume to have an extension of the costume that moved around on wheels.

There have been three celebrities who forgot the lyrics to what they were singing during their encore performance. They are Drew Carey, Logan Paul, and Anthony Anderson.

Colton Underwood is the first person from The Bachelor Universe to be a contestant.

There are two songs that were used as Walk In Songs three times. They are Jungle Boogie by Kool and the Gang and Glamorous by Fergie.

There was going to be a Group Performance of Get Ready by The Temptations in the Season 2 Finale.

If Michelle Williams had stayed in the competition, she would have performed Love on Top by Beyonce, which is very interesting considering they were both in Destiny’s Child.

Dr. Drew Pinsky had said that his next performance would have been Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard.

If Joey Fatone had made it to the Season 1 Finale, he was going to sing Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett.

Had Chloe Kim made it to the Season 4 Finale, she would have performed Scars To Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara, which I would have loved to hear because she was a great singer.

After Tony Hawk was unmasked, he admitted that he only had two songs in him, and in an interview, he revealed that the other song was Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf.

If Brian Kelley had made it to the Final Two of the Season 13 Finale, he would have performed Miles On It by Kane Brown.

The facial markings of The Mallard costume more closely resemble a wood duck.

The McTerrier costume was originally going to be called Terrier, one of the few instances where I think the name change was worse.

Had Duff Goldman lasted another episode, he would have performed All Star by Smash Mouth as his second performance.

Bishop Briggs is the first international winner on the show, as she was born in the UK.

Had Gloria Gaynor stayed in the competition, the next songs she was planning to perform were Unstoppable by Sia and Stand Up by Cynthia Erivo.

Bethany Hamilton is the first contestant to have also competed on The Amazing Race.

Two contestants had clue packages with lyrics on screen in them, and they were Victor Oladipo and Le’Veon Bell.

For three seasons in a row, a cast member from the show Black-ish was unmasked, as Season 10 had Anthony Anderson, Season 11 had Jenifer Lewis, and Season 12 had Marsai Martin.

Jenifer Lewis did the show some time after an accident where she fell off a ten foot balcony at a hotel in Africa, so she couldn’t walk yet, was still on morphine, which caused her to fall asleep at times when she was sitting in the throne for her costume, was bolted down to the floor in a harness for her first performance, and for her second performance, she was holding on to a microphone stand that was bolted to the floor.

While there have been many Monster costumes throughout the series, the only female one was Miss Monster in Season 3.

T-Pain, the winner of Season 1, has recorded at least one song with the Top 3 of Season 3, Bow Wow, Jesse McCartney, and Kandi Burruss.

There are only two contestants in the whole series to sit down during their performances, Wendy Williams and George Wendt.

The Clue Package for The Moose is unique, as it is done in the style of a sitcom intro, which makes sense for George Wendt who starred in Cheers.

The concept art for Mother Nature was made for Season 4, but the costume was finally used in Season 6.

Vivica A Fox was the first contestant to not have an unmasked encore.

Dionne Warwick was The Mouse in Season 3, and years later, she was on Season 5 of the UK Version.

Dionne Warwick gave her costume the nickname Mommy Mouse.

The Mummies from Season 8 also have a number of fun facts, so here they are.

They were originally made for Season 7, and they were also a duo for a woman and a man called Mummy and Daddy. I really wonder who they would have been for, as there have been no man and woman duos since then.

Two of the three Mummies were given names, as The Leader Mummy was called Frank and The Yellow Loincloth Mummy was called Stripey Head.

Apparently if you look closely, The Mummies’ mouths can be seen moving while singing.

Ken also guessed that one of The Mummies was Joey Lawrence, who was revealed to be The Walrus three episodes later.

Mushroom was the first food related mask to make it to The Finale.

Sara Evans was the first contestant to perform in the Season 9 Premiere, but that wasn’t supposed to be the case, as she has revealed that she was supposed to make her debut on ABBA Night, which was the next episode, but due to Wanya Morris testing positive for COVID and The French Hens being unable to make their debut as a result, she got moved up to The Premiere and had to learn Here I Go Again by Whitesnake as a result. For someone who had to get moved to the premiere at such a short notice, she did a great job.

This next one is very surprising, so brace yourself for what I am about to say.

Okay, here it is.

Edwin McCain revealed that if he had made it to the Season 13 Semi Finals, he was going to perform, and I am not making this up at all, he actually said this in an interview…

…Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan.

Yes, you read that correctly. Edwin McCain, the singer of I’ll Be, was going to sing Pink Pony Club. I don’t know if I want to say we were robbed of a great performance, because it is unlike anything he has ever performed, even on the show, but he is a great singer, so maybe he could have pulled it off.

Kandi Burruss was the first female winner.

Kandi Burruss revealed that she was originally scheduled to be in Group A, but she told producers that she had to be in Group C because of the birth of her kid.

Debbie Gibson got literally 24 hours notice when she was on Season 9, as she served as a replacement for Boyz II Men who had to drop out.

Dwight Howard said that if he was around for more episodes, he was going to sing It’s Your Thing by The Isley Brothers and Can We Talk by Tevin Campbell.

Mark McGrath was the first Wildcard Contestant on the show.

Both of Mark McGrath’s performances were songs from artists that did the show before and after him, as he performed songs by Dee Snider and Bret Michaels.

Laila Ali revealed that she chose to sing the songs she sang because she wanted to spread strong messages.

The head of The Panda costume was one of the heaviest built for Season 2.

Montell Jordan said that if he had made it to TV Theme Night, he would have performed the theme to The Golden Girls.

Matthew Lawrence initially requested to wear a reptile costume due to his love of reptiles, but he was instead offered and wore The Paparazzo costume.

Donny Osmond was the first performer ever on the show.

In an interview, Donny Osmond said that his identity was almost accidentally revealed to the public when his grandson was told that his grandfather was The Peacock and ran around telling members of his family.

Donny Osmond the oldest runner up by birth year, as he was born in 1957,

The Peacock costume is currently on display in Vegas.

Gretchen Wilson is the oldest female winner currently.

If Sherri Shepherd had lasted another episode, her next performance would have been Truth Hurts by Lizzo.

Natasha Bedingfield also had 24 hours notice with being cast on the show, due to another contestant dropping out, but unlike with Season 9, we still don’t know who she replaced.

Caitlyn Jenner revealed that if she had another performance, her second performance would have been Ain’t Too Proud To Beg by The Temptations.

The Pi-Rat was originally going to be called The Pirate. I think the change was another smart one, as the costume was clearly a rat dressed as a pirate, so calling it Pi-Rat makes sense.

Michael Rapaport is the first contestant to swear more than once.

Nick Lachey is the first contestant to sing opera.

Nick Lachey revealed on the show that he got the call to be part of it four days beforehand, which makes it all the more impressive that he won.

Nick Lachey also revealed that he was originally offered to be on Season 2, but he was busy with another show at the time.

Tommy Chong was the first contestant to have his identity correctly guessed by one of the panelists, but not as a final guess.

After being unmasked, rather than giving an encore performance, Grandmaster Flash instead gave a DJ performance where he showed off some scratching, which is what he invented.

Margaret Cho was the first of Ken Jeong’s costars that he failed to guess correctly. It has happened almost every season since.

The Poodle Moth costume was first teased in a trailer for Season 10, but the costume was really part of Season 11, which could mean that Poodle Moth was meant to be in Season 10.

One of the judges guessed that Popcorn was Gloria Gaynor, when it was actually Taylor Dayne. Fast forward to several seasons later, and Taylor Dayne made a guest appearance on Disco Night to sing I Will Survive, which is a Gloria Gaynor song.

Had Cheyenne Jackson made it to the second round of the Season 7 Finale, he would have performed Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

Toni Braxton is the first contestant who wore a face mask while performing due to her lupus.

En Vogue was originally supposed to wear feline themed Three Musketeers costumes, but they wanted to wear costumes they could dance in, so they had the Queen Cobras costumes instead.

All By Myself by Eric Carmen was going to be the next performance for TWO contestants if they didn’t get unmasked. The first was Ana Gasteyer in Season 2, and the second was Natasha Bedingfield in Season 6. It was finally performed in Season 9 by David Archuleta.

Jewel performed the first foreign song on the show, by performing La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf.

The microphone for Queen of Hearts was a prop for the show, and Jewel had a headset microphone under the mask.

The Queen of Hearts costume was actually based on Jewel’s own artwork.

After the show, Jewel released an EP of covers of all the songs she performed on the show.

After Joey Fatone was The Rabbit in Season 1, he got a tattoo of the costume.

The Raccoon was originally going to be called Junkyard Sheriff. Yet again, another change for the better, as if the costume is clearly a raccoon, they should just call it a Raccoon.

Barry Zito’s unmasking episode aired on his birthday, and it was also filmed three days after the birth of his son, and immediately after production ended one day, he jumped on a plane to Nashville and met his wife in time for the birth.

Tyrese Gibson is the only contestant to actually lie in his Clue Packages.

The Robot costume from Season 3 had a working siren.

Chris Daughtry was the first American Idol alum to be a contestant.

Royal Hen was a costume that was made from The French Hen costume in Season 9.

Two contestants have performed songs about themselves on the show, Grandmaster Flash and Billie Jean King.

Jana Kramer said that Holiday by Madonna was a last minute song choice, and that she was originally going to sing a song by Ariana Grande that she couldn’t remember the name of, but the show couldn’t get the rights to it.

The Royal Knight costume was originally going to be called Lady of the Knight, but Jana Kramer correctly told them to change the name.

Anthony Anderson is the only contestant to perform once in Season 10.

The first music group to do the show together was Hanson.

The biggest Russian Doll costume was given the nickname Big Bertha.

The S’More costume was originally going to be called Marshkateer. I honestly don’t know which name I like better, as it does look like the marshmallow version of a musketeer.

Linda Blair was the first contestant to voluntarily quit the show before the results of the Audience Vote was announced.

Christine Quinn’s costume was called Scorpio, but her real Zodiac Sign is a Libra.

Macy Gray is the first Wildcard Contestant to make it to the Finale.

The Sea Queen costume was originally going to be called Blue Sea Dragon. I personally like Sea Queen better, as it’s a much simpler name.

Tamera Mowry was originally going to be The Seahorse in Season 4, but she had to drop out due to laryngitis, and was later The Seashell in Season 5.

The spiritual advisor in Tori Kelly’s third Clue Package was Kirk Franklin.

If she made it to The Finale, Tori Kelly wanted to sing Latch by Sam Smith to have a party song and have fun with it and go crazy on stage.

Corey Feldman was the only Wildcard Contestant in Season 11 to be on more than one episode.

The Serpent was the first costume to have animatronics on it.

Paul Shaffer was the first contestant to sing two combined songs in a single performance.

Paul Shaffer is also the first contestant to sing a rap song on the show.

Had Billy Bush made it to the next episode, he would have performed Chicken Fried by The Zac Brown Band.

The Skunk costume from Season 6 might be a recreation of a scrapped costume from The Masked Dancer.

Kermit the Frog is the first fictional character to be unmasked.

Kermit’s puppeteer was inside The Snail costume and got around in a motorized wheelchair.

Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black were the first group contestants to compete together as a duo.

Had Nikki Glaser made it to the Season 8 Finale, she would have performed Lucky by Britney Spears and All Too Well by Taylor Swift, which I would have loved to hear.

Flavor Flav was the first contestant to perform a Taylor Swift song, and he also said he would be the only one, and considering it happened in Season 13, I agree with him.

Flavor Flav said that he felt cheated on the show by the easy clues.

Bob Saget was the famous friend in Tom Bergeron’s third Clue Package before he was a contestant on Season 4.

Had Bob Saget stayed in the competition, his next two performances would have been Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash and Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash, which I wish we had gotten to hear.

Showbird was originally going to be called Dodo Bird, which makes sense as it resembles one, but personally, I think Showbird is a better name.

Had Yvette Nicole Brown made it to the next episode, she would have performed Best Of My Love by The Emotions, which I wish we got to hear because she is a great singer.

Once Malin Akerman was unmasked, she revealed that her father from Sweden and her son were in the audience.

Strawberry Shortcake was supposed to be a duo of both Aly & AJ Michalka, but Aly dropped out due to pregnancy, so the costume became a solo costume for just AJ.

AJ Michalka was the only contestant from Season 12 to compete in every Face-off.

If AJ Michalka had made it to The Finale, she would have performed What Was I Made For by Billie Eilish and Why Can’t I, which I wish we could have gotten to hear, as she is an amazing singer.

LeAnn Rimes was the first contestant on the show to perform a song a cappella.

Had Bella Thorne stayed in the competition a little longer, she would have performed The Climb by Miley Cyrus and Changes by XXXTentacion.

The hot sauce bottle microphone for Taco was a prop for the show, and Tom Bergeron had a headset microphone under his tomato head.

Victor Oladipo revealed that if he had made it to The Season 2 Finale, he would have performed Stay With Me by Sam Smith, which would have been an amazing performance that I hope we can hear someday, and also would have been the first repeat song had it been performed.

Sebastian Bach was the first celebrity to be wearing an accessory while wearing the costume, as when the top of The Tiki costume was removed, he was wearing a Hawaiian Lei around his neck.

The Unicorn costume was originally going to be called The Unicorn Queen, which I think is another smart change, as just calling it Unicorn is enough.

Before he was unmasked, Mario was confronted by TMZ about being The Wasp. He denied it, saying that he could sing better than The Wasp.

Mario is the first contestant in the American Version to perform a K-Pop song.

After Rob Gronkowski was unmasked in Season 3, the panelists told him that they missed seeing him play football, as he had retired by that point. A few weeks after this happened, he announced that he was coming out of retirement.

The Wolf has the most unique entrance to the stage, as he didn’t walk out to stage, but rather just magically appeared after a strike of lightning.

Omarion said that he was going to perform PYT by Michael Jackson while he was on the show. I don’t know if the rights didn’t clear for him to sing it, or if it was going to be his Finale performance.

The Yeti costume had big feet on it, but Omarion only wore them for one performance, as he wore dance shoes for three performances and roller skates for one performance.

Overall, these are all the fun facts about The Masked Singer that I could think of and could find to share with you all! I hope you all enjoyed reading them, and I’ll see you all soon with another blog post!
