Season 13 Finale

After an amazing season up to this point, it was finally time for the Season 13 Finale! I was looking forward to this episode, as all four singers were great, and The Finale is when the contestants pull out all the stops, so I knew that we were going to be in for several amazing performances.

The episode started off with a group performance with Rita and the final four contestants singing “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan. I enjoy it when they let Rita sing, as she is a great singer, and I also enjoy the group performances, as they let the contestants stand out together, and this was the second time in the show’s history that an episode started off with a performance from a panelist and the contestants. I also loved how when she said the word “wicked” in the song, a green light flashed that made her skin look green, and she also changed the lyrics to “leaving London Town” as opposed to Tennessee in the original song, those were cute touches. I also loved how at the end of the performance, before joining the rest of the panelists, she looked at the costumes to see if there were any clues on them.

The first performer of the night was Pearl. For each clue package in this episode, the contestants talked about their journey on the show. In her clue package, she said that every time she put on the Pearl costume, she thinks it’s strange that she pulled it off because it’s so unlike her, and the hoodie and sweatpants she wore on set is more in line with who she is. She then said that she is gritty, raw, and unapologetic, has always been that way, and that a lot of times, especially when she was first starting out, it stood in the way of her success. She then said that one time, she was singing for a record executive, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw him writing “N-O,” and she was about to break into tears as a result right then and there, so she just closed her eyes, kept on going, and finished the audition, and it turned out that what the note actually said was “N-O-W,” as in “Sign Her Now.” She then said that even after all these years, she thinks people still don’t know what she is capable of, until now, as being on the show has allowed her to come out of her shell and show her range. She then went on to give an amazing performance of “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall, during which she showed off all the power in her voice. After the performance, Robin said that he heard something in her voice that time, which made me think that he was going to correctly guess that Pearl was Gretchen Wilson when it was time for her to unmask. After each performance, a telephone was brought out and each contestant got a phone call from somebody close to them, and in the case of Pearl, it was her daughter.

The second performer of the night was Coral. In her clue package, she said that as a little girl, she had Audrey Hepburn “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” dreams, staring at the old Hollywood movies from the other side, and wishing to be like the glamorous stars in them one day, and her wish came true, as she is part of one of the biggest franchises of all time, and there are little girls watching her. She then said that she didn’t want it to stop there, as for years she was trying to release her music to be a pop star, but people weren’t listening, as they just thought of her as that girl from those movies. She then said that The Masked Singer is the perfect place to go to when you have something to prove, and the show gave her the opportunity to show that she is a triple threat. She then went on to give an amazing performance of “Moon River” by Audrey Hepburn, during which she showed off all the emotions in her voice. After the performance, she got a surprise phone call from her dad. When Rita was making her guess, she said the correct guess of Meg Donnelly along with several other guesses, so I predicted that by the time she got unmasked, Rita would guess correctly, but none of the other panelists would as well.

The third performer of the night was Boogie Woogie. In his clue package, he said that before he got there, he watched The Masked Singer at home and thought it looked like such a good time, but being on the show was so much more, as it brought him tons of joy and unlocked so many emotions. He then said that back when he was getting started, he practiced in his tiny apartment, performing for no one, telling his family not to give up on him, until one day, he got a knock at the door and a neighbor told him that his voice sucked and that he should give up on his dream. He then said that their words hit him hard and pierced his positivity, but he refused to let them stop him. He then said that now that he’s a dad, he would give anything to protect his kids from rejection, but he has realized that a big part of life is learning how to push through the pain, as there is always beauty on the other side. He then went on to give an amazing performance of “Freedom! 90” by George Michael, during which he showed off all the power and energy in his voice. After the performance, he got a surprise phone call from his daughter. I was surprised that when the panelists were making their guesses, none of them said the correct guess of Andy Grammer, so I assumed that what was going to happen when it was time for him to unmask was either one panelist would guess correctly at the last minute, or none of them would.

The fourth performer of the night was Mad Scientist Monster. In his clue package, he said that his music career was sort of a happy, crazy accident, as he had always thought he would be an athlete, and when that wasn’t the case, he was lost. He then said that his dad was the one who motivated him and encouraged him to go the unconventional route, and he was glad he did, as watching him see his success with so much joy over the years is why he keeps going. He then said that when his group parted ways, his dad was the one who gave him the strength to know he could go out on his own, and being on the show was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him to reintroduce himself to the world and made him think going solo was the right choice after all. He then went on to give an amazing performance of “Stay” by Sugarland, during which he showed off all the power and emotion in his voice. After the performance, he got a surprise phone call from his mom and dad. I was glad to see Jenny sticking with her correct guess from last week of Brian Kelley from Florida Georgia Line, but I didn’t think she would be able to convince anyone else.

After that, it was time for the first unmasking of the night. The singer with the least amount of votes was revealed to be Mad Scientist Monster, which didn’t surprise me and my uncle, but it did surprise my parents. Before it was time for him to unmask, the Crack The Case Clue Case was brought out, and inside was revealed to be a golden fish necklace, and he said that he loves the outdoors, grew up on and near the waters, and loves fishing with his dad to this day. As I predicted, Jenny stuck with her guess, and the other three panelists went with three other guesses. He then unmasked, and the internet and Jenny were proven to be right yet again, as Mad Scientist Monster was revealed to be Brian Kelley. I found it funny that one of the Men In Black had a cowboy hat on standby that they quickly put on him. I also thought it was cool that he said that he did the show to challenge himself and perform songs that he would never otherwise sing, he did a great job on all of them. I was a little surprised that for his unmasked encore, he didn’t sing a Florida Georgia Line song. If I had to guess, maybe he didn’t have clearance from the other member Tyler Hubbard.

After that, it was time for the second unmasking of the night, and the singer in third place was revealed to be Coral, which also did not surprise me. This also meant that Boogie Woogie and Pearl would have one more performance each. Before Coral was unmasked, the Crack The Case Clue Case was brought out, and inside was a cheerleader outfit, and she then said that the uniform changed her life and gave her the ability to chase her dreams, and now people cheer for her. As I predicted, Rita finally settled on a guess that ended up being correct, but none of the other panelists went along with her guess. Coral then unmasked, and the internet and Rita were proven to be right yet again, as she was revealed to be Meg Donnelly. I found it great that she did the show to get more comfortable on stage singing, she has a great voice, and I hope she continues to further her singing career. I also found it cute how many fans she said hello to after she was unmasked.

After that, it was time for Boogie Woogie’s second performance. He gave an amazing performance of “Love the Hell Out of You” by Lewis Capaldi, during which he really showed off all the power and emotion in his voice.

After that, it was time for Pearl’s second performance, and I knew that she was going to have to bring it in order to have a chance. She then gave an amazing performance of “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders, during which she also really showed off all the power and emotion in her voice, or as I said watching it in real time, she had to bring it, and she brought it.

After that, it was time for the final vote, and I knew that it could easily go either way. Nick then announced that the winner of Season 13 was Pearl, which me, my parents, my uncle, and his partner, were all happy with. Before she could be revealed, she was brought over to the Winner’s Circle and Boogie Woogie was unmasked first. Before that could happen, his Crack The Case Clue Case was brought out, and inside was a pink ribbon, and he then said that he lost his mom to breast cancer, so he does a lot of work to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. As I had predicted but was still surprised by, none of the panelists guessed correctly. He then unmasked, and the internet was proven to be right yet again, as Boogie Woogie was revealed to be Andy Grammer. I was really excited to see him on the show, as I had written about how he would be perfect for the show all the way back in December 2023. After he talked with Nick and the panelists for a little bit, he gave what might have been the best unmasked performance on the show, as he performed an uninterrupted and seemingly unshortened performance of his song “Don’t Give Up On Me,” which my dad also said might have been his best of the season.

After that, it was time to finally unmask Pearl. Before that could happen, her Crack The Case Clue Case was brought out, and inside was a pair of pants with a tag that said “To Pearl From Dolly.” Pearl then said that it was a pair of pants for the record books, as not only did her idol Dolly Parton give them to her, but she also got to perform with her while she was wearing them. As I predicted, Robin had figured out who it was and came up with the correct guess, but none of the other panelists did as well. She then unmasked, and the internet and Robin were proven to be right yet again, as Pearl was revealed to be Gretchen Wilson. I thought it was great that she did the show to celebrate getting back to being in a good place, as she said that in the past few years, she was injured and in a wheelchair, which made her think that she would have to give up her career, but being on the show helped her realize that she could do anything, which I agree with because she performed so many different genres on the show. Also, with Robin guessing her correctly and Jenny guessing Brian Kelley correctly, this meant that they were both tied and both won the Golden Ear Trophy. The season ended with Gretchen Wilson giving an amazing performance of her most famous song “Redneck Woman.”
Overall, this was an amazing end to an amazing season! There will be a Season 14, but not until January 2026, so in the meantime, I might make some more blog posts about celebrities that would be perfect for the show or whatever else occurs to me, and I might also write about some of the shows I will be watching during the summer! As for what those are, you will just have to wait and see…!
