Season 10 Review

After two amazing seasons with Seasons 8 and 9, my expectations for Season 10 were fairly high. It made sense too, considering they made a teaser for it that aired immediately after the Season 9 finale ended. In the month of July, they released another teaser that I found to be cute, as it was all the letters in the name of the show coming to the stage, but they were all made to look like past contestants, and some were made to look like upcoming contestants. However, there was something going on at the same time at the season that had me concerned. A day after this teaser was released, the actors strike had begun. All that I could think about now was how this would impact the season, as one of the panelists is an actor, and I was also wondering how many contestants would drop out because of the strike, leading to the show having to find last minute replacements. Then, costumes started to be revealed, and I started to feel a bit more excited, as just by looking at the costumes, my dad could tell that the old costume designer had returned. Then more information was released, like interesting theme nights and the fact that there was going to be a kickoff special before the season started with one of the biggest reveals of the series, and I began to look forward to the season even more.

When the kickoff special premiered, it was so much fun, as we got some duets from past contestants, some clues for four contestants that season, and an amazing performance from a guest contestant who was revealed to be Demi Lovato. Unfortunately, there was also something in the special that contributed to my concerns about the season. One of the contestants they gave clues for was the Diver, and he talked about being the most hated person in the world, and then they showed a cardinal. The cardinal immediately made me think it was someone from St. Louis, and from hearing him say that he’s the most hated person in the world, I had a good idea of who it was, but I just wanted to be sure. I searched to see if the person I was thinking of was from St. Louis, and when I saw that he was, I had determined that the Diver was Tom Sandoval from “Vanderpump Rules.” I became concerned because even though I found of videos of him showing that he is a good singer, I could only think to myself how many actual singers they were going to have during the season.

The season premiered a few weeks later, and all the concerns that I had were shown to be unnecessary. The whole season was full of amazing performances every episode, and the themes to each episode were also a ton of fun. Unlike the reviews for Seasons 8 and 9, I am going to be highlighting every contestant this season, as I feel that they all deserve some mention.

The first celebrity that was unmasked was Anthony Anderson, who gave a surprisingly good and entertaining performance of “Come on Eileen.” I was only disappointed that I didn’t immediately recognize his voice, as “To Tell The Truth” is one of my favorite game shows.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was Tom Sandoval, who gave two good performances, one of them being “Any Way You Want It” by Journey, which I found to be impressive as it takes a lot of courage to cover a song performed by Steve Perry. Even though he wasn’t the worst performer on the night he was unmasked, my dad said that he got unmasked because the audience realized that Ken was right with his guess and wanted to get rid of him immediately.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was Michael Rapaport, who gave two entertaining performances of “Pinball Wizard” by The Who and “Beverly Hills” by Weezer, during both of which he inserted the word pickle into the lyrics, as his costume was the Pickle. His unmasking is one of the funniest moments of the entire show, as after he got unmasked, he called out all the panelists individually for getting him eliminated and said that he should have won.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was Billie Jean King, who was not the best singer, but had a lot of cool circumstances with her time on the show. She performed the song “Philadelphia Freedom” by Elton John, as it was Elton John Night, which is a song that was written for her. So, she was singing a song that Elton John wrote for her on Elton John Night on The Masked Singer.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was Tyler Posey, who gave two impressive performances of “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” by Elton John and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by The Police. He also performed these songs in a way that sounded like early 2000s pop punk, which surprisingly fit these songs perfectly.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was “Real Housewives” star Luann de Lesseps, who gave an entertaining performance of “It’s Raining Men.” She was also the first contestant this season who continued the tradition of letting the unmasked celebrity sing the song they’re famous for, as after she got unmasked and they talked to her, she performed her song “Money Can’t Buy You Class.”

The next celebrity that was unmasked was basketball player Metta World Peace, who gave an entertaining performance of “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block. This was one of the more surprising reveals to me, as everything in the clue package told me that it was Dennis Rodman, such as the wedding dress, the bull, and the fact that he said that he sabotaged his own success. This was the most surprised I had been by the show in a while, but it was a good surprise.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was Ashley Parker Angel from the boy band O-Town. He gave several great performances during his time on the show, like “Slow Hands” by Niall Horan, and a powerful performance of “Hey There Delilah.” It was also cool that he was even on the show at all, as he is no longer a member of O-Town, and he seems to have given up music to become a life coach. It was great to see that his voice is still good. It was also great to hear him sing the O-Town song “All or Nothing” after he got unmasked.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was Ginuwine. He gave three great performances of three different types of songs that showed his range, which were “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John, “Super Freak” by Rick James, and “Always” by Bon Jovi. It was also great hearing him sing his song “Pony” after he got unmasked.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was rock singer Sebastian Bach. For a singer who is primarily known for his work in the genre of heavy metal, he did a great job showing off his range. He gave an amazing performance of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John, a great performance of “Magic” by Pilot where he showed off his amazing falsetto, and a performance of “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” by Kiss where he showed off his ability to switch his vocal tone. It was also great to hear him sing his song “Youth Gone Wild” after he got unmasked.

The next celebrity that was unmasked was John Oates. His costume, the Anteater, looked very silly, but he made up for that by being an amazing singer and choosing amazing songs. His rendition of “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn was amazing, he did a surprisingly very good job on “I Want It That Way,” and he did a great job on “Johnny B. Goode.”

The next celebrity that was unmasked was R&B singer Keyshia Cole. She gave three great performances during her time on the show, as she gave a fun performance of “1 Thing” by Amerie, a beautiful rendition of “All My Life” by K-Ci & JoJo, and an impressive performance of “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige.

The celebrity that finished in fourth place was R&B singer Macy Gray. While I understand that a lot of people don’t like her voice, I personally found all three of her performances to be very good. She gave a good performance of “Love Potion No. 9” by The Searchers, a great performance of “To Be with You” by Mr. Big, and an impressive performance of “Rescue Me” by Fontella Bass, which she ended by laying on the floor and doing a mic drop. It was also great to hear her perform her song “I Try” after she got unmasked.

The celebrity that finished in third place was actress and singer Janel Parrish. She was the first person to perform in the season, and she kicked it off with an amazing performance of “Uninvited” by Alanis Morrissette and gave other amazing performances during her time on the show like a slowed down version of “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry, and a beautiful performance of “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol.

The celebrity that was the runner up was actor and singer John Schneider from “The Dukes of Hazzard.” While I did know that he had done some singing, I had no idea how great he was, and was blown away by all his performances. He started off with an upbeat performance of “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede, and then did a bunch of beautiful and heartfelt performances in honor of his late wife who had passed away earlier that year. I can’t even say which one was his best, because they were all so beautiful, and you can tell how much emotion he was putting into each of these songs. They were “I Do (Cherish You)” by 98 Degrees, “Georgia on My Mind” by Ray Charles, “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker, and “Drift Away” by Dobie Gray.

The celebrity that won the season was R&B singer Ne-Yo. He gave many amazing performances during his time on the show, such as “Bones” by Imagine Dragons, “Treasure” by Bruno Mars, and “Cry Me a River” by Justin Timberlake. His finale performances were his best, as he gave an amazing performance of “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson, where he showed off his amazing dance moves, and a beautiful performance of “Take a Bow” by Rihanna, a song that he wrote.

All these contestants helped to make this an amazing season! I hope you all enjoyed reading this blog post, and I’ll see you all soon with another one!
