Voices Of Olympus Night
After three amazing episodes with Group A, it was finally time to meet Group B in Voices of Olympus Night! I was very excited for this, as since it had been three weeks with Group A, it felt like it was the start of a new season, which I think is probably how I will feel when Group C premieres at the end of the month. I also felt that this was an interesting theme, as while I knew that it would result in creative stage design and the panelists dressing up for the theme, I also knew that the theme was vague enough that the contestants would be performing whatever songs they wanted to, so I knew we would be getting a variety of unique songs.
The episode opened with Nick providing a dramatic narration to introduce the episode, and then introducing the panelists, who were all dressed according to the theme. I was not surprised that the episode didn’t begin with a guest performance, as I don’t feel there are any songs that are appropriate for the theme.
After the introduction, it was time for the first performer of the night, which was Boogie Woogie, which is a disco themed boogieman. I was glad to see that they continued showing footage of each celebrity seeing their costumes for the first time, and I’m glad that they will surely continue doing it in Group C. In his clue package, he said that throughout his childhood, he would do anything to become the center of attention. He then said that back in the day, he had dreams of being a clown, so he taught himself to juggle, and then in high school, he shifted to more serious aspirations, which were being a magician, and he even entered a talent show and won. He then said that when he graduated, the only job that he could afford was busking, which didn’t pay the bills. He then said that he trusted that this was his calling, because he believes in doing what you love, and one moment can change everything. He then said that Apollo, the god of music, called him up to add The Masked Singer to his resume, right under magician and clown. Visual clues included disco balls, magic equipment, a magazine, quarters, and a piano. He then went on to give an amazing performance of “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness, during which he showed all the power he has in his voice, including some very impressive falsetto. After the performance, he said that he wanted to make all the other monsters and singers disappear. I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Boogie Woogie is Andy Grammer. He wanted to be a clown when he was younger in order to make people laugh, won a talent show as a magician in high school, he got his start busking on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, the disco ball is referring to his time on “Dancing with the Stars,” the magic equipment is referring to his song “Magic,” the magazine is referring to his album “Magazines or Novels,” the quarters are referring to his song “Keep Your Head Up,” as they were all facing heads side up, the piano is because he plays the piano, and him saying the word “monster” could be referring to his album “Monster.” I am also excited that he is on the show because I wrote about how he would be perfect for the show back in 2023, and he was also my early guess for Mad Scientist Monster, who we still have yet to meet.
The second performer of the night was Space Ranger, which was an alien dressed as a cowboy. In his clue package, he said that the costume was perfect for him because it’s futuristic and lives on its own planet, just like him. He then said that over the years, he has made several accomplishments, such as winning gold and taking home some serious hardware to wear around his neck. He then said that with all that success, there were haters and that he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, which is why he would be channeling Ares, the god of war, to put them in their place and show them that he’s worth the hype. He then said that he would be going for the gold again with a track from his bestie. Visual clues included a report card with an A+ in PE, a house of cards, and a heart shaped box of chocolates. He then went on to give a very entertaining performance of “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift, during which he showed how much energy he has in his voice, and he also did a great job at holding a note for a long time. After the performance, he said that Taylor Swift was one of his besties, and when the panelists asked if there were any clues on the costume, Nick said that if the panelists got a good look at what was on the belt buckle, meaning a clock, it would give away who it was. I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Space Ranger is Flavor Flav. He is the type of celebrity that some would say lives on his own planet, won gold by winning the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys, the hardware around his neck and the clock belt buckle are referring to the oversized clock necklace that he is famous for wearing, him saying that he wants to show that he is worth the hype is referring to the fact that he was the hype man in his group Public Enemy, the PE on the report card is another reference to Public Enemy, the heart shaped box of chocolates is referring to his show “Flavor of Love,” and he has been seen with Taylor Swift many times, as well as going to many of her Eras Tour shows. I am also excited that he is on the show because he is one of the celebrities on my list of celebrities that are perfect for the show.
The third performer of the night was Griffin. In his clue package, he said that when you become a star, you’re treated like a god and everyone wants to get a piece. He then said that when he skyrocketed to overnight success, he wasn’t prepared for the fandom and the adoration, and he had no idea that his first hit would immortalize him, as one time, a lady took dirt off his car and said she would take it home to her children. He then said that he is only human and was reminded of that recently, and the future he saw in the stars was all being rewritten, and now he knows that life is so precious, and he takes every opportunity that comes his way. Visual clues included a sheriffs badge, a bell ringing with a sign that said “School’s Out,” and a VHS tape that had a jack-o-lantern on it. He then went on to give an amazing performance of “Rewrite the Stars” by Zac Efron and Zendaya, during which he showed off all the power and emotion he has in his voice, which I found even more impressive considering he is not a professional singer. After the performance, he said that the stage is his happy place. I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Griffin is James Van Der Beek. He immediately rose to fame after starring in “Dawson’s Creek,” the story that he told about being reminded that he’s only human, his future being rewritten, knowing that life is so precious, and taking every opportunity that comes his way is referring to the fact that he is currently battling colorectal cancer, the sheriffs badge is referring to his role in the movie “Texas Rangers,” the bell ringing with the words “School’s Out” is referring to his starring role in “Dawson’s Creek,” the VHS tape with the jack-o-lantern is referring to his appearance in “Scary Movie,” and him saying that the stage is his happy place could be referring to the fact that he got his start in theatre. I am happy that he is on the show because I wrote about how he would be perfect for the show last year.
The fourth performer of the night was Bat. In her clue package, she said that she was becoming the bat because she is a creature of the night and a bit of a bat-ass. She then said that like bats, she is one of the most misunderstood creatures ever, as she has been forever villainized, constantly being portrayed as a blood-sucking backstabber. She then said that wasn’t who she really is, as her real friends know she has a heart of gold, and she has just been surrounded by a bunch of lunatics and, for years, all of her words have been twisted upside down, while she is just out here partying and having the time of her life. Visual clues included a business card, a bear, and a TV that said 24/7. She then went on to give a very good performance of “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, which I felt was perfect for her voice. After the performance, she said that it had been a minute since she last saw Jenny and Nick, saying that she and him actually spent a holiday together this year. At this point in time, I knew that Bat was a reality star, but I didn’t know which one, so I went to the internet, and the guess that I saw the most was Scheana Shay from “Vanderpump Rules,” so I decided to agree with that guess.
The final performer of the night was Pearl. In her clue package, she said that just like a pearl, you have to crack through a tough exterior to find the treasure inside, and the same has been said about her for her whole life. She then said that growing up, she always loved performing, but people like her weren’t promised a chance at a big break, so she took any gig she could, from discount stores to dive bars, praying that someone would find a pearl of talent within her. She then said that eventually, the world was her oyster, but she has never been able to shake hard exterior, which has affected every aspect of her life, especially love. She then said that she is a softie at heart, which is why she was embodying Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Visual clues included a baseball, an umbrella, and cherries. She then went on to give an amazing performance of “Saving All My Love for You” by Whitney Houston, during which she showed off all the power she has in her voice. After the performance, she said that she had never dressed that fancy before, and that usually when she is on the red carpet and they ask her what she is wearing, she says that she got it on sale. I agree with the popular guess on the internet, which is that Pearl is country singer Gretchen Wilson. She is known for being a tough lady, performed at Walmart and dive bars before making it big in hopes of being discovered, and she is also unlucky in love, as she has never been married and has one daughter with her ex-boyfriend. The baseball is referring to her being a huge baseball fan, singing the national anthem at the World Series in 2004, recording a version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” for ESPN, and the fact that she sponsors a women’s softball team, the umbrella could be referring to her songs “When It Rains” and “Raining on Me,” the cherries are referring to her being featured on the Buckcherry song “The Feeling Never Dies,” and she has been vocal about shopping at Walmart and having no interest in designer clothes.
After everyone had performed, it was time for the unmasking. The singer with the least amount of votes was revealed to be Bat, which didn’t surprise me. Before the panelists made their final guesses, the Crack The Case Clue Case was brought out, and inside was golden hoop earrings, and she then said that gold has been a part of every major life event she has had, including the debut of her first single. As soon as she said this, I knew that Bat was Scheana Shay, as her first single is called “Good as Gold.” I was not surprised that none of the panelists guessed correctly, but I was surprised that Rita was allowed to change her guess after already making one, as I thought that once the panelists made their final guesses, they couldn’t change them. In the end, the internet proved to be right once again, as Bat was revealed to be Scheana Shay from “Vanderpump Rules.” I found it funny that the panelists have recently started asking if there are any clues on the costumes, and yet they didn’t notice that the collar on Bat was a “V” for “Vanderpump Rules.” I also found it funny that she said that bats are her favorite animal, and that she hopes that her dressing up as a bat on the show would help her daughter not be scared of bats anymore, as at 3:00 AM that morning, she told her that she keeps having bad dreams about bats. With Scheana no longer being a part of “Vanderpump Rules,” I hope that she continues to move forward in her career doing what’s best for her, whether that be putting out more music, starring on another show, or something else entirely.
Overall, this was an amazing start to Group B, and I’ll see you all next week for Ghostbusters Night!
